Phil worked in a technical field for many years before returning to school to obtain a BA from Cornerstone University and a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Western Michigan University in 2004.  Since then he has provided general outpatient group and individual counseling in Allegan, Kent, and Ottawa Counties, as well as for the Allegan County Drug Treatment Court during the last 12 years. Phil was involved in re-entry work in the community with the 2nd Chance program in Ottawa County.  He has facilitated groups at Holland Rescue mission and at Project Rehab in Grand Rapids. He is currently providing outpatient individual therapy for mental health and substance abuse with a non-profit agency in Holland and will be providing outreach services in the local West Michigan area.

Phil is licensed as an LLP (Psychologist, Masters Limited), board certified as a National Certified Counselor as well as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He has had specialty training is Marriage and Family therapy and enjoys working with adults and families, walking alongside them as they address the challenges of life both internal and external.  He focuses on issues of anger management, anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationships, recovery, and re-entry. Phil has completed basic training in EMDR therapy for use with clients who have experienced trauma. He also received training by Star Behavioral in Cognitive Processing Therapy and is on the provider registry with Star Providers for working with military PTSD.

Phil and his wife have four adult children and 13 grandchildren. Phil is active in his church and lives in Holland, MI. He enjoys sailing, bicycling, camping, and spending time with family.
